Cruising China

River cruises in China have long been part of the preferred method of seeing inland China.  Packages combine land travel with river sailing to make itineraries ranging from 10-20 plus days.

The classic package usually included 3 to 4 days sailing on the Yantze River through the beautiful gorge area.
Many times extended cruise tours before or after an ocean sailing are offered and enjoyed by many who sail the ocean ports.  The usual tours in China include Xian, with its Terra Cotta warriors (don’t miss this) and Guilin.  They also include the domestic air flights required to see inner China.

Many cruise lines are now offering cruises that depart from either Beijing or Hong Kong.  Both cities are well worth spending at least 2 to 3 days (or even longer) exploring.  The Ming Dynasty architecture and the Great Wall are sights in Beijing that cannot be missed.  We have excellent independent tour operators in both cities that can provide custom independent sightseeing and hotels at very reasonable prices.  In Asia, we definitely recommend private tour guides.  They are reasonably priced and can help to make your travel time in Asia much more productive that “by yourself” independent travel unless you are well acquainted with the area and its culture.  We have packages that allow us to combine several cities into one travel itinerary if you should so choose.

Another recommendation is to include one extra day when flying into Asia in order to rest and adjust to your new environment.  It will help to make the rest of your trip much more enjoyable and productive.
